Doctor Who Magazine delivered to North America

We get asked this question a lot, so we thought it was worth writing a blog post about it.  The question:

The answer is yes.  We provide a subscription service which allows you to choose a 3, 6 or 12 issue subscription, and have the issues delivered to you within 7 days of the magazine being available on the UK newsstand.

Doctor Who Magazine, which has been formerly known as Doctor Who Weekly/ Doctor Who Monthly is actually the world’s longest running magazine based on a television series (it’s over 30 years old).  The television series itself is 50 years old this year!

The magazine was initially published by Marvel comics in the UK in mid October of 1979.  In September of 1980 the magazine switched over to a Monthly publication.  Over the next 5 years it underwent several name changes from Doctor Who – A Marvel Monthly to Doctor Who Magazine in December 1985.

The availability of the magazine outside the UK has been sporadic at best.  Where Doctor Who has been popular, the magazine could be found in specialist comic book and cult fantasy shops.  As a weekly title the magazine was not available in the USAat all, but when it moved to a monthly title in the 1980’s it was available in the US through Marvel distribution.  In the 1990s the magazine ownership transferred to Panini, and distribution in North America became less wide spread.  A few comic book shops carried the odd issue, but only occasional issues.

Where the magazine is available it is often a number of weeks after the magazine has been issued in the UK, and so there is quite a lag between the magazine content and the on screen episodes.

Sometimes the magazine has a “cover mounted” gift, which is basically a free gift attached to the cover of the magazine. The good news is with our subscription service you will receive these free gifts if they are available on the magazine.
