Unleashing Creativity: Unique Magazines Inspires Next-Gen Creatives at Newcastle College
27th March 2025Whether you were celebrating in the stands of Wembley Stadium or glued to your screen at home, Sunday 16th March will go down in history for Newcastle United and will be forever etched in the memories of Geordies across the globe. A moment of pride, passion and unwavering spirit that united a city and its people in unforgettable fashion. One that we’ll be talking about for generations.

From Covent Garden to Wembley: A Sea of Black and White
The Black and White Army descended on London in their thousands during the Carabao Cup final weekend, filling Covent Garden on the Saturday as part of the build-up to the big match. NUFC lit up social media with the aptly chosen hashtag #WeDontDoQuiet, a fitting slogan for the occasion. It all came together in a perfect storm, creating an unforgettable moment in history that marked the club’s first major domestic trophy since 1955. And what a way to do it.
The Unique Magazine team joined in the excitement as our lovely Angela and her family, along with our new Customer Experience recruit, Jess and her family all headed down to the big smoke to fly the black and white flag. They soaked up every moment of the historic win, proudly representing the Toon alongside thousands of fellow Geordies.

The atmosphere inside Wembley was nothing short of electric as Newcastle fans flooded in, transforming their side of the stadium into a sea of waving black and white scarves. Each scarf, a limited-edition design gifted by Sela, had been placed on every seat in honour of the historic match on Sunday 16th March.
First Half: An Electric Start
From the first whistle, it was clear Eddie Howe had a plan, and his squad was determined to win. Newcastle asserted themselves early with a high press and relentless energy that stunned Liverpool in the opening minutes. Their intense efforts paid off just before the break, as Dan Burn, the local Blyth lad fresh off his first England call-up, met Kieran Trippier’s corner with a thunderous header in the 45th minute, sending the Magpies into absolute delirium.
Liverpool attempted their trademark possession play, but there was a noticeable lack of tenacity and valour, winning just 42% of their duels against the opposition.

Second Half: Sealing the Glory
The second half of the game was tense, gritty, and full of drama. Both teams had chances, but it was Newcastle who capitalised on theirs. In the 52nd minute, assisted by Jacob Murphy’s headed pass, Alexander Isak raced down the right and slotted a perfectly placed shot past the Liverpool keeper, putting Newcastle United ahead in sublime fashion.
The final 20 minutes were nail-biting for fans on both sides. Newcastle defended with fierce determination, with Joelinton and Sandro Tonali forming an impenetrable wall in midfield. In extra time, Liverpool halved the deficit with Frederico Chiesa’s goal, sparking hope in the closing minutes. The Reds threw everything forward, but ultimately couldn’t break through in the final moments.
Full-Time Whistle: Pandemonium
As the referee blew the final whistle on Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool, the 32,000 fans inside Wembley, along with thousands more watching from home on Tyneside, wasted no time in starting the party. Festivities lit up Newcastle city centre, and wild scenes unfolded as supporters flocked to St James Park to toast the players who brought an end to a 70-year cup drought.
Tears, hugs and roaring pride reverberated around Wembley Stadium as the Magpies watched club captain Bruno Guimarães, alongside former captains Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles lift the trophy. A powerful symbol of how far this club came in such a short time under new ownership and Eddie Howe’s leadership.
The Magpies had done it. Newcastle United are Carabao Cup Champions.
